the other day, every other day, some other day

这三个词组非常相似，但在表示时间上还是有区别的。the other day 指“过去的某一天”， every other day 指“每隔一天”， some other day 指“将来的某一天”。

 

一、the other day

 

记住：the 不能丢掉。它的意思是“过去的某一天”。

 

Just the other day. 
就在几天前
 
He came out with a most extraordinary story the other day. 
几天前，他讲了一个非常离奇的故事。

 

Helen borrowed my book the other day, saying that she would return it soon. 
海伦那天借走了我的书, 说很快就还。

 

It was a terrible piece of work you turned in the other day. 
那天你交的作业太糟糕了。

 

I saw him in town the other day. 
我最近有一天在伦敦见过他。

 

2. every other day

 

这个词组的意思：“每隔一天”，也可译为“两天一次”。

 

We meet every other day. 
 我们每隔一天见面。

 

The milkman comes every other day. 
 送牛奶的人每隔一天来一次。
 
I go to there every other day. 
 我每隔一天去一次。
 
He was somebody you read of every other day in the newspaper, yet we couldn't put a name to him. 
他是我们常在报上看到的人物，但我们不知道他是什么样的人。

 

3. some other day

 

它是指“将来的某一天”。
 
When will you go to the Fair, tomorrow or some other day? 
 你何时去交易会？明天还是另找哪一天？
 
I will call you up some other day. 
 过几天我给你打电话。
